An Idea from MSN...
I've noticed something that MSN (IM program) does that GW could definitely benefit by implementing. If you're afk (don't press any buttons/use the mouse) for a certain amount of time on MSN (5 or so minutes), it automatically switches your status to Away, then switches it back as soon as you do something on your computer. This could be a very useful feature in Guild Wars; it would allow people to know for certain if their friends are afk, even if they forgot to switch their status manually, instead of wondering. In addition, it seems like it should be quite easy to implement. Does anyone else like this idea?

Frankly it just doesn't seem at all necessary to me. In CoH/CoV a little bubble pops up over your head that says afk. If you're afk for to long it'll log you off.

I forget to put it on away most of the time, then friends/guildies think I'm ignoring them. this could solve that.

I didn't mean that it should log you off GW, I just thought I'd mention what they did in a different game for no reason in particular.

I usually set myself to away but sometimes I forget and my guildies also tend to go afk quite a bit and this would help to know if they are afk or just busy with something.

In my guild I find that its usually about 2 in 10 people AFKing for various reasons. This way I could tell who is AFK and therefore won't be responding to things over guild chat.

if you really want it you'll do what i did and just get dual monitors and keep guild wars in an unmaximized window on one monitor and your msn (or any other IM service) up on the other screen. works wonders and saves anet from wasting more time on pointless things that you can do yourself.

He isnt talking about the IM programs, he is talking about what happens in game. I don't see where your arguement is going because the way I read it, it is totally off topic.

I was borrowing an idea from MSN, not referring to using it with GW at once or anything.

What can you argue anyway against automatic status changes?

In general, Guild Wars needs a major overhaul on statuses and friend lists.

it doesnt log me off for being AFK... Ive accidentally left it on, go to sleep, wake up, go to work, get home, "youve been playing for 15 hours please take a break"
I would also like this implemented.
I would also like to be able to see where my guildies are hiding, so that instead of "online" we see "Harvest Temple" or something... Diablo II did that, so it cant be THAT hard.
